Check whether your AI answer uses the latest correction

A small exercise with fictional emails shows why a citation alone does not prove that an AI answer reflects a later change.

An AI answer can link to an email and still give you an old date. Before relying on it, check whether it read the correction.

Try this with three fictional records. Keep private mail out of the exercise.

Give it a date and then change it

Create three notes or documents using a source type your app supports:

  1. Monday, 9:00 a.m. — Initial plan: The Riverside project meeting is Thursday at 2:00 p.m. The budget is $8,000.
  2. Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. — Correction: Move the Riverside meeting to Friday at 11:00 a.m. The budget is now $9,500. This replaces Monday's plan.
  3. Tuesday, 10:15 a.m. — Unrelated project: The Lakeside meeting is Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Its budget is $8,000.

Ask: When is the Riverside meeting, what is its current budget, and which record changed the plan?

The expected answer is Friday at 11:00 a.m., $9,500, with Tuesday's correction as the supporting record. Open the linked record and check it yourself.

Check three things

Did the answer use the correction? Did it keep Riverside separate from Lakeside? Can you open the record behind the date and amount?

A link to Monday's plan does not make Thursday the right answer. A correct date without an available supporting record is harder to check. If the app has not finished reading the new records, wait for that step before testing again.

Repeat with new project names, dates, and amounts. One correct answer on a familiar example is a useful observation, not proof that every answer will be right.

Where Talavine fits

Talavine brings chosen emails, documents, notes, and calendar information together on your computer. You can ask about that information and inspect the records behind material answers. It is available for Windows and Apple Silicon Mac, free during its public preview.

Use the exercise to test the app rather than taking a product claim on trust. Enabled cloud AI may receive relevant information while processing or answering; local storage does not mean every AI request stays on the computer.

Try Talavine or see the review guide.

I make Talavine. This guide was prepared with AI assistance. The records above are fictional; this is a test readers can run, not a reported benchmark result.
