SwarmSpan is running in the tray on Windows and the menu bar on the Mac. Nothing else to configure. Here's what changed, and what to try in the next five minutes.
One clipboardFiles, any sizeDirect, no cloud detourAgents can drive it
The first five minutes
Three things worth doing right now.
Try this first
Copy here, paste there
Copy anything on one machine and paste it on the other. Text, formatted text, images, and file lists all cross. Nothing to click: the clipboard is already shared.
Press Ctrl+Alt+V on Windows or Control+Option+V on the Mac for the history of everything that crossed.
Then this
Send a file without emailing yourself
Right-click any file in File Explorer and choose Send with SwarmSpan, or use Send To. On the Mac it's in the Finder's Services menu, or drag files onto the Control Center.
Files land in Downloads/SwarmSpan on the other machine. A whole folder goes as one batch with one approval.
Then look around
Open Control Center
Click the tray or menu-bar bee. You'll see your paired devices, transfers in flight, clipboard history, and any work your machines are doing for each other.
It's also where you unpair a device, choose shared folders, and turn the agent bridge off.
Files
Move anything, in either direction, without a middleman.
Transfers stream straight to disk on both ends, so a multi-gigabyte video is no different from a screenshot. Each file carries its SHA-256 so you can tell it arrived intact.
Push from where you already are
File Explorer's right-click menu and Send To, the Finder's Services menu, or a drag onto Control Center. Select several files, or a whole folder, and the other machine asks once for the batch instead of once per file.
Pull from the other machine
Browse a paired device's shared folders and take what you need. Anything outside those folders stays private unless you trust that device or approve the request when it appears.
Mac and PC paths stop mattering
SwarmSpan addresses files by a shared-folder name and a relative path, so the same request works whether the other machine writes C:\Users\you or /Users/you. You never translate a path by hand.
Agents
Give the other machine something to do.
This is the part people don't expect. SwarmSpan is an MCP server, so an assistant or a coding agent on one computer can use the other one: the machine with the licence, the GPU, the signing key, or simply the files.
Ask, in plain language
Talavine's assistant finds SwarmSpan automatically. “Send that file to the Mac” or “what's on the laptop's clipboard” becomes part of the conversation. Any other MCP-capable agent can connect too.
Hand over a whole job
A coding agent can assign structured work to the agent on a paired machine: a goal, the context, what success looks like, and the files it should send back. Progress and the final result come back to a ledger you can read.
Run the same program everywhere
Send a small C# program and every machine runs it: inventory them, find which one has a file, or check that a fix behaves the same on Windows and macOS. The receiving machine decides what such a program may touch.
Nothing runs away with your machine
Work runs while it is producing output or using the processor, and is stopped when it stops doing either. Cancelling reaches the computer actually running it, not just your list.
Two computers cannot see each other until you pair them with a one-time code, the same trust ceremony as approving a screen share. After that they authenticate each other cryptographically on your network, with no account and no server in between. Unpair a device and it is cut off completely.
A Windows PC comes back after a reboot
The installer sets up a start-at-boot task, so a PC that restarts unattended rejoins your swarm before anyone signs in. If your install could not do that, SwarmSpan offers it as a notification you can click.
Work waits for a machine that's away
Send a file or a job to a computer that's asleep and it isn't lost. The request is held and delivered when that machine comes back, and you'll see it move in the ledger.
Questions
If something isn't behaving.
The other computer doesn't appear. What now?
Both machines need SwarmSpan running and to be on the same network, and they must be paired: a one-time code shown on one and typed on the other. If they were paired and stopped seeing each other, check that the network is set to Private rather than Public on Windows, and that both machines are awake. SwarmSpan's installer adds the firewall rules it needs, so a fresh install should not need any firewall work by hand.
Where do the files I receive go?
Into Downloads/SwarmSpan by default, keeping the folder structure they were sent with. Click the notification when a file arrives and the folder opens with that file selected. Anything an agent produces for you lands in the SwarmSpan Shared/Agent Handoff folder instead.
Does anything go through a cloud server?
No. Clipboard items and files move directly between your own paired machines over your local network. There is no account and no relay in the middle, which is both faster and more private.
Does it keep working when nobody is signed in?
On Windows, yes. The installer sets up a start-at-boot task so the PC rejoins your swarm after a reboot without anyone signing in, which matters for a machine that sits in a corner. On the Mac, SwarmSpan starts when you log in.
Can my coding agent use this?
Yes. SwarmSpan is an MCP server, so Claude Code, Codex, or Talavine's own assistant can list your devices, move files, and hand a job to the machine that should run it. Every request is recorded in a work ledger you can read in Control Center.
How do I stop sharing with a machine?
Unpair it in Control Center. From that moment the two devices cannot reach each other at all. You can also turn off the agent bridge on a machine while keeping clipboard and file sharing, or share nothing outside your chosen folders.
Add another machine
SwarmSpan is better with every computer on your desk.
Install it on your other machines and pair them once. It's free.
